Artist’s Block #1

Art keeps calling me…beckoning me to fall between the sheets of sketchbook paper…rolling across the surface of a canvas bed, wanting me to soak the surface with passion and paint…but I can’t lie down here.

My heart is frozen in a state of fear and self-denial. I’m gazing out the window, chasing after things that are outside of myself and my natural element. Art calls regardless.

I can feel its phantom touch caress my Imagination, and wild images of us flash by in my Mind’s Eye…but for some reason it won’t translate in the physical.

How do I stop this? How do I change this? How do I allow myself to free-fall into the arms of my lover again?

Art. Loyalty like no other. How could I betray this figure who’s been there since the very beginning?

How do I ground myself in the comfort of creation again? It feels like I’ve lost touch…

Where do I go from here?

As a bit of a continuation of my previous post, I’ll explain one of my newest artworks: UNDERPAINT.

UNDERPAINT is my own cute twist on the title of the popular role-playing video game called UNDERTALEin which the player plays as a human child who has fallen down into a hole Alice-in-Wonderland-style to a place called the Underground. Underground  is the magical realm where monsters (who once co-existed in peace with Humans on Earth above ground) retreated after being defeated in a war with Humans. From this point onward, the player embarks on an adventure through Underground to try to find his/her way back home.

Throughout the game, as the player encounters monsters and other situations, there is something involved called DETERMINATION. We all know what the word itself means, yes?

A simple definition: “A quality that makes you continue trying to do or achieve something that is difficult.” (Merriam-Webster)

Well, in the context of the game, DETERMINATION is not only the above definition, but it is also the game-saving checkpoints too. Every time the player goes to a checkpoint (yellow star in the picture below), a phrase pops up that generally shows appreciation for something going on in the close vicinity; the phrase always ends with “(It) fills you with determination.”

For UNDERPAINT, I was watching a playthrough of UNDERTALE  on YouTube late one night when the idea hit me! As an Artist (or as I like to say, Heartist), I know it can be hard sometimes and since we’re so sensitive about our shit (as Ms. Badu so beautifully phrased it), we can crucify ourselves faster than the speed of light! We Creators and Creatresses can be our own worst enemies, especially if we feel like a piece of artwork isn’t turning out the way we want.

So this encouraging phrase popped into my Mind: “Knowing this blank canvas will one day be a beautiful work of art…It fills you with DETERMINATION.”

And filled me with DETERMINATION, it did! 😀 ⭐

The next day it dawned on me…I would LOVE to wear that as a shirt or even wear that on my own bag! (I don’t remember ever being THAT hype over my own artwork before lol). Then I thought about how many OTHER people would enjoy and appreciate an encouraging message like that staring them in the face everyday: My fellow ARTISTS…my fellow UNDERTALE fans…my fellow ARTISTS who ALSO happens to be UNDERTALE fans and vice versa! Even if one isn’t a fan of UNDERTALE, it’s still a  wonderful way to be encouraged to push forward anyway. That blank canvas can even be a metaphor that represents our lives. ❤ ❤ ❤

That’s when I KNEW I had to get this particular collection out to the masses!

Now, for the title UNDERPAINT.

Underpainting is a technique used in which an initial layer of paint is applied to a surface (canvas, etc.), which serves as a base for subsequent layers of paint on top, which builds up to the final product.

With that being said, UNDERPAINT was the PERFECT title for this and appreciation of mine.

Are you filled with DETERMINATION? Let the world know! Click any of the pictures below to start your UNDERPAINT collection. ❤

To Be “In Bloom”: Gentle Evolution

What’s good, Family? ❤

As you all know, my special surprise I was hinting at and teasing you about in my previous blog entry is FINALLY HERE! If you’ve read the blog or even  visited the website, then you now know that the name of my collection is called the “In Bloom Collection!” Here in this entry, I’ll explain the significance of the name.

I know you must be thinking, “Um Way, what’s so significant about it? Clearly you’re talking about the spring–we get it.” BUT–again, there’s more to it…

The world may celebrate the “New Year” on January 1st, but for those of us who are in tune or on our way to returning to being in tune with nature, we know that the true “New Year” is the Spring Equinox, which is roughly around the 21st of March. Spring represents new life blossoming forward after the long, cold, barren winter season. New life comes to us from Mother Earth in the form of a clear blue sky and sunlight; bright, beautiful fragrant flowers; fresh rainfall; leaves on the trees; birds and butterflies, etc. We also tend to get the feeling of a fresh start, renewed Energy, and a chance to finally go outside and play! 😀

So in the same vein as Spring itself, I’ve been quietly undergoing my own transformations in my life. Given the winter, it wasn’t always easy, but I’m still here. I am still well on my Path of Remembering and Healing, and I’m taking great strides towards my Highest Self. (I mean, aren’t we all)?

I want SOUL Meets BODY to embody these changes in myself and in nature, so I quietly unplugged the site so I could switch it up and totally revamp it with ALL-NEW art, products and services to present to the world with my very own flair! This is specially-made for my sistas out there all around the world! I’m so excited about all of this! This is my VERY FIRST OFFICIAL COLLECTION EVERRRR! 😀

As more and more ideas for new art, personal endeavors, and adventures spring into my my Mind (pun intended) like the flowers of this season, I realize that “In Bloom” is the perfect name to bestow upon this collection of work.

“In Bloom” instantly brings springtime to my Mind with flowers, green grass and trees; but what’s even more special is the fact that it’s such a PRESENT statement. To be “in bloom” is an on-going thing. No matter when you say it or how many times you say it, it’s always happening RIGHT NOW. This actually brings a kind of peace over me (yes, because in the midst of working on the site and things behind the scenes, I was abusing myself like crazy! I wasn’t sleeping right, eating right, NOTHING! I was so EXCITED to get this out to you, I forgot to take care of ME! But it’s okay…I’ve neutralized. Ha, ha!)

In short:

We are ever-changing, ever-growing, ever-beautiful and ever-loving.

And THAT, my friends, is how the 2016 “In Bloom Collection” came to be.

I said it before and I’ll say it again: THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!

Keep on shining! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

YESSS!!! After all the quiet toiling and working and grinding….oh, and FIGHTING to NOT spill the beans too soon…
I HAVE ARRIVED! Just in time for SPRING! ^_^
I present to you….
My very FIRST SOUL Meets BODY Spring Collection! 😀 ❤ ❤ ❤
This photo is just a GLIMPSE. From ME to YOU!
Head on over to for the REST of the surprise!
I’m SO HYPE, Y’ALL! YESSS!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

We ALL have these days.

“Nope, I’m not for ANY of the bullshxt from ANYBODY. NOT TODAY.”

I just pulled an (unintentional) all-nighter playing around in Photoshop to create this piece.

Just my way of letting off some steam and not letting negative Energies penetrate my world.

(Hm, I should start doing digital art more often). ❤ ❤ ❤

Nu Year, Nu Message!

I just keep coming and going like the soft whispers of wind in the night, but that’s because I’ve been so busy with all the projects I’ve got going on for myself, from working on SOUL Meets BODY to my own personal growth and development. I’m taking online courses, I’m deep in my art, deep in myself and speaking of which, I’d like to present to you my FIRST piece of 2016. With this “new year,” I share a “new message.” To be honest, this message isn’t new….but it’s new to ME simply because it no longer falls on my deaf ears. I hear it loud, clear and with a shifted and refreshed perspective…so it sounds and feels brand-new.

A message to myself AND to others:

LOVE YOURSELF, REGARDLESS of how you look, what people do, think or say about you….including YOU.

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy….and that’s not a good feeling at ALL. This is a reminder for me to love me and have my own back no matter WHAT.

I love myself, I nurture myself, I forgive myself, I heal myself.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a man, a woman, young, old, tall, short, natural hair or weaved/permed up, light skin or dark skin, heavy set or slim, WHATEVER STATE YOU’RE IN, YOU’RE FINE JUST THE WAY YOU ARE.

If you’re looking to make genuine improvements on yourself and your life, then look in the mirror and say, “I love myself. I am DEEPLY IN LOVE with myself. I mean it. I love me! I do WHAT I can, WHEN I can, HOW I can until more opportunities present themselves to me. I am ALWAYS alright.” Ase!

I’ve had such a wonderfully overwhelming response on social media and in person when I shared this, that it has prompted me to release prints! I really love and appreciate when my artwork can touch and inspire others so deeply. Things like this keep me happy and inspired to create even more for us.

If you’d like to begin (or continue) to INDULGE in self-love REGARDLESS of what anybody else around thinks, says or does, treat yourself  here!

As written on Ataensic Media:

Okay, so, as you already know, I am an Artist (or as I like to say HEARTist)! But what you may not know about me is how much I love FOOD! 😀 Another thing you definitely may not know about it me is that I love to COOK! Why do I mention cooking? Because as we all know, the preparation of food is an art form within itself–hence CULINARY ARTS!

Now, I’m no professional chef or anything and I don’t know many of the technical cooking terms, but I can tell you this–just like with my drawing, painting, creative writing, etc.–cooking is a fun experience where I learn more about myself. From the different properties of the foods I’m preparing (since I’m eating cleaner these days) to my own techniques, to the cooking process to what I like or dislike overall. I always like to go by feel, even when I sometimes follow a recipe I find online.

Creating dishes from scratch makes me feel so light, elated and free! Eating dishes prepared by your own loving hands and knowing EXACTLY what’s in the food really makes the nourishment of the body experience that much more meaningful. You can really tell the difference between eating out and eating in. 😉 Since I’ve been eating healthier (both for the benefit of myself and my loved ones), this contributes further to my happiness when I’m in the kitchen.

Of course, not ALL of my culinary creations go exactly as I hope they would but what I DID discover is that when I do the following things, it makes a big difference in how my dishes will turn out–and that’s DELICIOUS!

Energy  When I say “Energy” I mean this in two ways: One, it’s important to want to FEEL like preparing food (both raw AND cooked dishes). Trust me, there’s been MANY times when I’d go food shopping, come back and dance all around the kitchen as I neatly put things away and theeeeennn–I’ll cook an amazing meal the next day, then sporadically and then…well, the food ends up going bad because I don’t always feel like preparing food. So make sure you get all the right nutrients and Energy from the dishes you DO end up making, plus get your sleep so that you won’t feel so BLAH and reluctant when it comes to making meals. Two, it’s important to be aware of your FEELINGS/EMOTIONS when you prepare food. Yes, your mood, your Mindset and your intention DO in fact, influence how your food will taste and ultimately whoever eats it. You can tell when someone put LOVE and CARING into the preparation of his or her meal versus someone who decided to cook in a bad mood and threw things together in a pot. Ask me how I know. *side-eye*

Prep in ADVANCE Listen….did I mention that eating cleaner means longer prep periods? But one time I actually washed all of my green leafy veggies in advance, dried them off and store them safely in the refrigerator so that when it’s time for me to use them I don’t sit around waiting for them to soak in ACV & baking soda water. 😉

Go By FEEL I learned how to cook at a young age, but now sometimes it can be a little difficult since the things I learned how to cook were greasy, fatty and generally unhealthy. So basically it’s like I have to start over. But I have a good foundation and supportive people in my corner to help me avoid TOTALLY start from scratch in navigating these healthy foods in the kitchen. I just go with what I feel, and as I cook, I smell and sample my spices and dash them into my food and I taste the food as I prepare it, until it’s just where I like it to be then it’s served and gratefully devoured. 😉 (Ask my MAMA!) Just so you know, part of my going by feel, I don’t tend to measure my ingredients out, especially when I’m making things up. Going with the flow your Spirit is SO important in all things that do, including COOKING.

Last, but certainly not least–

HAVE FUN! What’s the point of making good food if you’re not even enjoying it. I guess this ties back into the importance of Energy. I’ve ruined many a dish by cooking with a less-than-dazzling attitude, and I’m telling you when I get moody–you can tell by the dark storm clouds forming in the sky right above my house. SO! Make sure you have plenty of fun! You just ought to! You get to EAT what you make! You can usually find me flitting all around the kitchen, dancing to music, humming to myself or quietly focusing on how DELICIOUS whatever I’m making is going to taste! 😉

Now I’d like to share a recipe with you! Again, I don’t measure things out that much, so…take a peek at the recipe below and feel free to tweak it to your taste buds!
